Continuous focus on gratitude is a protective shield against negative or useless, unwanted thinking...
Whenever there is time for it, thinking "thank you, thank you..." can even serve as a "mantra" putting one in a meditative state, shielding off negative or unwanted thinking... e.g. while going through daily routines or while walking etc...
thanking and thinking are based on the same root word, and in that sense thanking may well be the highest level of thinking/awareness...
