Be Your Own Quarterback: Reviewing the Film of Life

Imagine this: a quarterback sits down after a game, whether they won or lost. They review the film. They analyze the plays that went well and the ones that didn’t. They don’t do this to dwell on their mistakes or bask in their glory—they do it to learn, grow, and move forward. Once the analysis is done, they leave it behind. Their focus shifts to the next game.

Now, let’s look at how we handle the “film” of our own lives.

Too often, we hit the mental replay button on moments that didn’t go our way. We review them over and over, not to learn, but to blame, complain, make excuses, or feel sorry for ourselves. Instead of gaining insights and moving forward, we get stuck in a loop, holding ourselves back from growth.

What if we approached life like an athlete?

Review the film. Objectively look at your day. What went well? What could have been better?

Learn from it. Identify patterns and take responsibility. How can you improve your “plays”?

Move on. Once you’ve extracted the lesson, let it go. Don’t dwell; focus on the next “game.”

Great athletes don’t let a bad game define them—they use it to fuel their growth. Neither should we.

The next time you catch yourself mentally replaying a tough moment, ask: “Am I reviewing this to grow, or am I staying stuck?”

Be the quarterback of your life. Review, learn, and move forward.

What’s one moment from today’s “film” you can learn from? Let’s talk in the comments.

Good advice. Never looked at it that way.
