Feeling Anxious About Money? You Might Be Thinking About It All Wrong.
We’ve all been there. You look at your bank account after the bills are paid, and a knot forms in your stomach.
You start to worry: "Will this be enough? What if something happens? How can I get more?" We treat our money like a small cup of water that we have to guard at all costs.
But what if money isn't a cup of water to be hoarded? What if it's a river?
Your fear tells you that the river might run dry, so you have to protect every drop you have. This is the Scarcity Mindset. It makes you anxious, fearful, and it actually stops the flow of opportunity into your life.
Money that sits still under a mattress of fear loses its power.
The truth is, money is a current of energy and value that flows through our economy and our lives. You are not meant to be a stagnant pond; you are meant to be a healthy, flowing channel.
So, when you feel that financial fear creep in, here are two simple things you can do to change your mindset and get the current moving again:
1. Practice Active Gratitude.
This isn’t just about saying "thanks." It’s about consciously appreciating what you have right now. Be grateful for the roof over your head, the food you can buy, the job that provides your income. Gratitude shifts your focus from "what’s missing" to "what’s working." This calms the panic and opens your eyes to opportunities your fear was blinding you to.
2. Intentionally Circulate Your Money.
This doesn't mean spend recklessly. It means stop being afraid to let money flow from you for things of value. When you pay a bill, do it with thanks for the service it provided. When you buy from a local business, feel good about supporting your community. When you invest in yourself—whether it’s a book, a course, or just a coffee with a friend—recognize that you are using money as a tool to build a better life.
You can't receive from a clenched fist. When you circulate money with purpose and gratitude, you signal that you trust the flow.
You participate in the river of the economy, creating opportunities for it to flow back to you in new and unexpected ways.
Stop guarding your cup so fearfully. Start participating in the flow.
